For certain uses, absolutely. No way i would mount a moto droid or iPhone on my handlebars. It couldn't handle the elements and doesn't offer bicycle friendly routes...
That's another good area where dedicated devices rule.

hey Juango,
One for work, one for real work :-)
I take your point on the two laptops- if I could use the dual boot functionality of a Mac, I'd just install Windoze there- but I need a Qualcomm issued machine while travelling for many things...
I'm looking into smart OSes for netbooks as well- there has to be an optimal way to move as much as possible to the cloud while keeping core funtionality and files for "airplane mode" (I spend a lot of time on planes these days).

why in the world would you need a macbook pro and a Lenovo, worse yet, why travel with both of them? When I switch to Mac (some day.....), I'll throw away the hardware and keep some kind of virtual machine.
You tend to go on Al Ries's side regarding the multi-purpose devices. I've always disagreed on that view, but you hit a point with the "lowest common denominator" argument.
I just don't want to keep piling up gadgets that I barely use!
